Soooo....like I've read about lots of owners, love my Twinmaster but battle with keeping it at "non-dirty looks/clear the room" level at small room gigs and still getting the tone I know the thing is capable of.  Tried some different stuff.  Weber mini-mass = loss of feel and high end.  Drive pedals=OK, but still not the same as the amp working hard.  So I got myself some 1/4" plexiglass and made the ol' W shaped shield to place in front of my 2x12" combo.  Did one gig in a small (40 bodies) bar and wow!  I was able to wind it up to about 1 o'clock in the normal channel, where in the past I've been at about 9, and got the thumbs up balance-wise from our trusted "ears in the crowd" guy.  I could finally get the range of clean to crunch with the guitars volume at a small room gig and only had to use my Xotic RC boost to push the amp into "Creamier" tones.  Now I just need a good source for inexpensive clear acrylic piano hinge as I don't think the "industrial strength" clear packing tape acting as hinge on my shield is going to be "multiple gig strength" :-)  Any other plexiglass lovers out there?  Any down sides anyone has experienced with them?
Cheers fellow Buddans,
Hipbilly

That's really cool. I've been wanting to try the same thing. I read about Joe Bonamassa's stage rig, and he does that. He mics his amps, also. (Of course, he's playing large shows, with big amps!) But, he likes how the shields keep the stage volume managable, and also how they create a type of consistent "virtual room" from  place to place. This allows him to re-create his same "room" at all of his gigs, to maintain a consistent tone.

hey...Ive seen some plexi-glass shields, but they werent "W"'s...whats the reasoning behind the "W" shape?
a friend of mine has kept his first PA which uses 18" spkrs in a "W" bin cab. They measure 4X4X8, very hard to move, but sound amazing...the old days though

W shape helps it stand plus the pieces I had weren't wide enough to make just a V (two pieces) had to use 4 pieces (W).  I set it up with one V of the W in front of each 12 in my 2x12.  BTW - my tape hinges are still holding up :-)
